What's the word from Hilo? I'm tuning in late to Kilauea news.

Is the town of Hilo being threatened?

My husband got me some streaming news from KHON, but prior to that it was just Fredericka Whitfield who (sorry Fred) sounded completely ignorant of the subject.

Mahalo.

3. I know, I saw some of that. Have you ever been to Volcano National Park?

I was there with friends about 1973, and we hiked to the lookout over a "small" eruption area. I could have stood there all day watching that raw power. No wonder it inspires worship.

...even tho I had grown up on O'ahu. My college friends and I -- including one from Hilo -- drove around the island, stayed at the Manago Hotel in Cooke, all that. I've had the chance to visit Hilo again only a couple of times, but it is a charming (and wet!) little town.

Nobody can predict what a volcano will do. Over 1,200 evacuated.

There are small steam vents quite close.
