A former member of the DeKalb County Election Commission is returning but only until after votes in the August 6 elections are certified August 17.

Jackie Smith, a Democrat, who served six years on the DeKalb Election Commission from 2015 to 2021 has been appointed by the Tennessee Election Commission to fill a vacancy after the temporary departure of county election commissioner Yvette Tubbs Carver.

A Democrat, Carver recently announced that she was stepping down briefly because of a family member who will be a candidate for public office in August

Carver’s brother Eddie Tubbs is a candidate for alderman in the Alexandria Municipal Election.
