Life expectancy increases in US. News isn't as good for Florida. What to know

The average life expectancy in the U.S. increased by almost a year in 2023, according to figures released by the Centers for Disease Control Thursday, Dec. 19.

U.S. average life expectancy was 78.4 years in 2023, nearly 11 months longer than in 2022.

The news wasn't as good for Florida, which slipped in both its U.S. ranking and life expectancy.

A large part of the U.S. increase was due to fewer COVID-19 death rates, the CDC said.
