Carmel mayor (?) announces he will not run for re-election

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. — Carmel Mayor Daley Byrne announced he will not seek re-election this November after sending a letter to the state opposing Carmel's revised housing plan.

After only a year and a half in office, Byrne said he is calling it quits.

The move follows his submission of a letter to the state opposing the city's revised housing plan.

"I'm a little disappointed about the recent news that he went against the city council, because I think it's important as a leader that we're representing the city council and the residents," said Maria Tarantino, a Carmel resident.
