Losing candidate sues county to overturn Shasta Lake election results
For the second time this year, a losing candidate has filed a lawsuit against the Shasta County Elections Office and their opponents in the race.
In the most recent case, Dolores Lucero has sued the elections office, claiming it violated state law by letting two of her opponents in the race for the Shasta Lake City Council be included on the ballot.
Six candidates vied for three seats on the city council. Toni Coates, Daniel Ringwelski and Greg Watkins were the top three vote getters. Lucero came in fifth place, with 13% of the vote. Incumbent Janice Powell came in fourth place, with 14.98% of the vote.
In her lawsuit, Lucero claimed that Janice Powell should not have been on the ballot because she had a conflict of interest as she was a member of the council and director of the Shasta Lake Chamber of Commerce.
