King City sales tax increase to be Measure T on November ballot

KING CITY — Monterey County Elections Department has assigned the letter “T” to the measure on the November ballot requesting a half-cent increase in the King City sales tax.

Registered voters will have a chance to say whether they approve of increasing the current rate from 8.75% to 9.25%.

Currently, King City and Gonzales have the lowest sales tax in Monterey County, with most other cities at the 9.25% rate. The City of Gonzales has a measure on its November ballot requesting a half-cent increase.

King City staff estimates the increase will bring in approximately $1.2 million per year for 12 years.
