Confidence is increasing that Saturday will be quite wet across Northern California and the Bay Area, at least for May standards. A cold front is likely to reach the North Coast and northern Sacramento Valley on Friday night, arriving in the Bay Area during the early to mid-morning Saturday.
Several hours of steady rain is expected in the Bay Area, before widespread precipitation turns to scattered showers in the afternoon and evening. About a quarter- to half-inch of rain is expected in San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento. Up to 2 inches of rain is possible in Eureka and Crescent City.
In the Sierra Nevada, precipitation is likely to begin as rain, but the system will draw in much colder air with it, dropping the snow line below 5,000 feet Saturday afternoon. Saturdays high temperatures in the Bay Area and Sacramento Valley are forecast to be in the upper 50s to mid-60s, a 10- to 20-degree drop from Friday.
