Related: About this forumEntire home spotted floating across San Francisco Bay
https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/houseboat-moves-across-sf-bay-19392503.phpIf you were near the San Francisco waterfront over the weekend, you may have caught an odd sight floating by.
A large, wood-shingled, two-story home was gliding across the water, towed by a much smaller boat at a glacial pace on Sunday as it made its way from the Docktown Marina in Redwood City toward Sausalito. The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed to SFGATE the boat was still in transit on Monday afternoon.
The department has been monitoring the private transfer of the hulking watercraft, though Petty Officer Hunter Schnabel with Coast Guard Public Affairs said they werent notified ahead of time that it would be moving. But with a vessel that requires a large berth, Schnabel said its a good best practice to notify the Coast Guard so they can alert other boats to give it plenty of space.
He confirmed the Coast Guard will have crews continuing to stand by until the transfer is completed.

(680 posts)1. When moving your home across the treacherous waters of San Francisco Bay remember to:
1. Pack a nice lunch.
2. Make sure the cats are locked up in the laundry room.
Oh, and;
3. Call the Coast Guard and see if they have any glass bottomed frigates.

(680 posts)4. So, there are not any cats locked in the laundry room?
What a relief, I thought we would have to take this post seriously.
Maybe I should call the Coast Guard back and let them know everything's gonna be okay?

And that area along with Pete's harbor have been going through a gentrification process for quite some time.. New owners want the place upscaled so all the old boats and houses have to go. Used to be relatively affordable housing for some.

to tow a barge home. How many miles? Hope they made sure the bay was calm, rough water could be a disaster.
