Centerton City Council member Thompson (R) declares candidacy for mayor in November election

CENTERTON -- A second City Council member is running for mayor in the Nov. 3 general election.

Cliff Thompson, 52, announced his candidacy Friday at an event at the old City Hall building at 290 N. Main St.

Thompson -- who represents Ward 1 on the City Council -- said Centerton faces some complex challenges. The city will need a strong, experienced leader who can separate facts from emotion and make decisions that will impact the community's immediate needs while working with subject matter experts and stakeholders to identify solutions, he said.

Centerton has experienced "incredible growth" over the past several years, Thompson said.

when I rode my bicycle there with my friend to his sister's house. Back then, it was a spot on a map, maybe 300 population, with several beef and dairy farms and a few chicken coops. In the '80s, it started becoming a bedroom community of Bentonville/Wal Mart. Today, it's just a bunch of overpriced houses, although it is pretty convenient to the regional airport.
