Razorbacks quarterback pleads guilty to DWI

Arkansas quarterback Cole Kelley pled guilty to driving while intoxicated in Fayetteville District Court on Wednesday and was sentenced by Judge William Storey to 90 days in jail, with 89 days suspended and credit given for one day served in the Washington County jail.

Kelley, 20, also was ordered to compete an alcohol safety class and pay $720 in fines and court costs. The plea and sentencing stemmed from his arrest Nov. 12 on suspicion of DWI, careless driving and violation of the implied consent law.

The freshman was pulled over around 4 a.m. after his truck's passenger side tires went up on a curb near the corner of Wedington Drive and Steamboat Drive. He engaged in parts of a field sobriety test, did not consent to a portable breath test, and provided a urine sample at the time.

Kelley was suspended by then-Coach Bret Bielema for one game and returned the following week. Kelley went 2-2 as a starter, leading the Razorbacks in losses to Alabama and Auburn and in victories over Ole Miss and Coastal Carolina. He completed 87 of 151 passes for 1,038 yards, with 8 touchdowns and 4 interceptions, rushed for 74 yards and 2 touchdowns and had an efficiency rating of 127.54. He is expected to contend for the starting quarterback job in spring drills under new Coach Chad Morris and offensive coordinator Joe Craddock.
