Arkansas state worker resigns over social media posts about women, gays

LITTLE ROCK—An outreach coordinator in Arkansas Treasurer Dennis Milligan's office resigned after social media posts surfaced that Milligan says were "insulting" to women and the LGBT community.

Milligan spokeswoman Stacy Peterson told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/2jadMOa ) that Hunter Hatcher voluntarily resigned Monday. Hatcher, a member of the Arkansas National Guard, had been on unpaid military leave from Milligan's office since December. Milligan has released statements saying Hatcher's comments were insulting and unprofessional.

In his resignation email, Hatcher apologized for his remarks.

"It is my intent to focus on my military service to my country," Hatcher said. "I would like to offer my sincere apologies to all who were offended by my egregious remarks, as it was not becoming of a Soldier. I am very contrite but will continue to focus on my mission with the Army."

A Twitter account believed to be Hatcher's included a post about President Donald Trump's inauguration and made what Peterson described as "anti-gay remarks," the newspaper reported. A Facebook post said during the state's Women's March that nobody was "making lunch."
