Related: About this forumArizona - The Basque Connection
Hi Arizona! Someone suggested I repost this to the Arizona group, so here you go. Hope you like it.
(FYI, I live in Colorado, but my daughter's fiancé lives in Winslow and goes to NAU, so we've been driving down every few months. Love Arizona! )

I thought I knew a lot of AZ history, but hadn't ever read about this.

(55,933 posts)3. I don't remember it Arizona itself had an entry, so now you have me thinking about
digging up the old copy of Barnes's Arizona Place Names.

(4,117 posts)4. This is page XV of Barnes' book:
Of course, he did his research before William (Mr. Basque) Douglass looked into it in 1979.
If you're interested, I found a copy of the book here:

I am pretty sure I know where my copy is, but I think it is behind some other stored furniture.

(4,117 posts)6. I couldn't find mine either
Of course, I can't find ANYTHING in my house these days. Also, these days it's easier to just sit on my butt and look it up online. That's just how lazy I am.

Thank you for posting this here. I always wrongly assumed Arizona got it's name because it's an arid zone.
