Related: About this forumSunrise on Pikes Peak
Sunrise on Pikes Peak starts about 8 minutes before "official" sunrise in Colorado Springs, when this photo was taken this morning. I can always tell it's that time when the shadow of the plains to the east reaches the bottom of the mountain, and the shadow of the bright red rock below the peak, the Garden of the Gods north Gateway rock, falls directly behind it.

(135,254 posts)I was commenting to friends several weeks ago about there being practically no snow on the Peak in mid-March. Very worrisome, along with almost no snow down here all winter.

(135,254 posts)the Peak during full moon time. If one awakens early enough, one can see them together.

(12,564 posts)... is that the moon is about to disappear below the mountains just as sunlight is hitting the top of the peak.
