(156,297 posts)We were lucky! We were either in the car going and coming home, or else we were indoors, when it was raining. We did not get rained on at all.

(23 posts)The table setting is beautiful. The tree is perfect. Is that Apple or Peach Cobbler and ice cream? Oh my! Yum! Beautiful family pictures. Back to that cobbler- now I want some! So yummy!
It was Apple crisp so I could slobber on my ipad
CaliforniaPeggy

(40,714 posts)Thanks for sharing these lovely photos CaliforniaPeggy!
I believe all American families are the same: the menfolk sit and watch football (or whatever) while the womenfolk are busy in the kitchen and dining room. It's the same here in Pennsylvania, and probably everywhere else.
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,297 posts)Nobody was actually watching football, as far as I recall. Our hostess was busy in the kitchen and several family members were assisting her doing the cleaning up.
We all felt the companionship and love from the whole group.

(28,882 posts)My husband and I spent the day at our younger son's wife's parents' home about 45 minutes from where we live. This has been the routine for the last 5 years, both for Thanksgiving and Christmas, ever since our son and their daughter became a serious couple. They got married in 2022.
We are very fortunate in that all members of both families really like each other - that doesn't always happen. Our DILs mom is a nurse, as am I, so we can always find something to talk about, Her dad is a retired fire chief with interesting stories to tell.. Her brother and SIL live right across the street, and have 2 little boys, the older of whom will soon be 3 and quite likes our son, his "Uncle Tay-tay" - Taylor.
For Thanksgiving, it is just the immediate family of the 8 adults and 2 little kids. On Christmas morning, there's a family breakfast at 10 AM, and then starting about 11, it's an open house with friends and neighbors dropping by for about 5 hours. Everyone who has known our DIL since she was a little girl totally adores our son and I can always count on hearing lots of very complimentary things about him.
Our son is about 6'2", and his adorable little wife is only 5'4". How tall is your grandson?
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,297 posts)We are lucky too--we all like each other, we agree politically and everybody is super smart about interesting topics! Our bonds are strong.
Unfortunately, they live >70 miles away, so we don't get up there often. And the weather was bad this year, though my husband and I were lucky not to get caught in the storm, either going or coming home!
I'm not really sure how tall our grandson is. He's well over 6 feet--Maybe 6'3" or 6'4" Dunno!
MIButterfly
(2,310 posts)By the way, my mother was 4'11" on a good day and my father was 6'2"! As for me, I always thought I was 5'5"; come to find out I'm 5'3"! How did that happen?

(8,006 posts)Kind of a rainy one, eh?
They seemed to get most main roads cleared okay.
I was visiting daughter and family in Ventura. Just passed the Oxnard airport on my way to catch a flight back to Florida.
Small world, lol.
CaliforniaPeggy
(156,297 posts)For sure, kind of rainy. We lucked out; the car got rained on, but it wasn't raining when we arrived or when we left.
How cool that you were nearby! And now you're home.

We had a lovely time!

(8,131 posts)And your artist's eye was at work, capturing the bowl full of ornaments, with pinpoint reflections looking like stars. Nicely done.

(11,181 posts)I am curious, in image No. 5 Who's that with the camera, mid-frame? Were they taking a picture of you taking that picture?
I'm glad you sat for an informal portrait. Great pose!

George

(156,297 posts)That photo is a group photo that I took of my husband and our 3 grandchildren. I think one of the kids was holding up his iPhone and reading it. Not photographing me!
The white-haired lady a few posts down from there is our hostess. She's usually moving around so it's hard to get a good portrait of her! I don't look anything like her!
