Then you turn around and see the dining room light shining bright.

It could be that the aliens are projecting what appears to be a ceiling lamp hanging from you dining room ceiling but it could also be a monitoring device, you just never know what kind of alien tech they might have…..

I would sleep lightly for a few days to guard against any possible probing just to be safe…..
