These are wonderful photos! I love all the decorations; they really add sparkle to the downtown.

It's always beautiful but these photos show what's possible when you want to go all out!

But the tall building by the pool is actually the L.A. Department of Water & Power.

I've never seen anything quite like this absence of Xmas lighting on the downtown L.A. Office Towers. Even in the most dire of economic times (like the Iraq war; Afghanistan war; oil embargoes; energy crises; Enron electricity crisis and California electricity crisis) the Oligarch orc owners of those office towers lighted them for Xmas. During crisis times, there were shorter lighting sessions and reduced times in which the office towers were lighted -- but this year -- there has been zero Xmas lighting of those office towers. The two largest towers were always lighted -- this year none are lighted. It is beyond weird. I looked again last night and none of them were lighted. This is the first time in my memory that this has happened. In past years those high-rise towers were almost universally lighted with Christmas colors from the day after Thanksgiving to mid-January. This year -- nothing.

There weren't near as many decorations as I thought there would be. I can't explain it.

But your pictures are lovely nonetheless. I used to work in downtown LA just a couple blocks from City Hall. I loved going to lunch with my workmates in the many diverse eateries in and around downtown, and exploring this historic area. I miss it.

I don't get around as well as I used to. I pretty much stayed around the Music Center. It's not easy getting old.

To be honest, when I saw that one photo of all the steps lit up, I wondered if my creaky knees would be able to get up all of them without having to stop.
