Here is my photo of the moon last night. I missed catching Mars which would be off to the lower left of the image. John1956PA Dec 18 #5

And thanks for the heads-up. I was out before dawn and was able to see this lovely conjunction.

This image was snapped north of Pittsburgh at 9:06 PM EST:

For those who follow astrology, the retrograde of Mars from December 2024 to February 2025 is a hot topic. During this interval, the planet will be moving from Leo to Cancer.

My camera is outdated. It is a meager Nikon L100, I have no tripod or other stabilizing equipment.

My thing for years has been to snap photos of the moon just for the fun of it.

As for astrology, I do not believe in it. But I do like the concept of certain aspects of the astronomy of the solar system. I think that retrogrades of planets are mildly interesting.

Keep up the great work with the sharp photos, and enjoy the holidays!

Your fellow lunar enthusiast from the other side of The Commonwealth.

I used a Canon Rebel T3 with kit lenses for many years and got some decent moon shots. Over the past year I've decided to go the whole hog plus the postage and bought some quality lenses and a mirrorless camera.

I suggest posting your moon photos in Photography where they'll be seen by more eyes.

Happy holidays!
