A friend of mine visited Lyon several years ago and had nothing but good things to say about the place. It is on my short list of places to see in France.

Our friend was up on Croix-Rousse. We would walk down hill to various places and took transit back up.

Shoot me a email when you think you are heading in that direction.

but will try to remember to e-mail you. My son and I are intrigued by the "walkability" aspect of many European cities and towns. He wants to move to either Spain or the Netherlands after he finishes college here in the states. He visited Spain, France, and Italy this summer and has been talking about them ever since.

I wonder why we Americans can't have these kinds of livable places.

We have been brainwashed into believing the American dream is to have a single house in the burbs. Then you could also segregate yourself from the minorities you wanted to get away from at the time, Jews, Irish, POC.....

It is looking like we will be here permanently. For the next 5+ years at the absolute minimum.

Taken when I was there in 2017. I have a friend who lives in Lyon--was teaching high school French in Kansas City--when he moved there about 15 years ago. Before Covid happened, I had been planning to take an apartment there for a couple of months in order to see if I could move there. Covid blew up that plan, but I really liked Lyon as a city.

We have visited a couple of times. Having a native guide helps.
It is also affordable inspite of being a large city. We looked at some ads in realestate windows. There are quite a few listings in the area are friend lives for the low 200s. If you are remotely interested spending a month there on a shoulder season could be worth it, even if you decide not to stay. It can be tricky to get a permanent visa if you are interested in staying permanently.
