Trying something new: Bubble photography

I mixed water, dish soap and cooking oil in a plastic lid; blew bubbles in the mixture using an angled drinking straw; and took closeups of the bubbles using a 100mm f2.8 macro lens.

It was fun but a tad tedious. The bubbles deflated pretty quickly. I used to make monster bubbles--using a wand with a big fabric loop--for my kids when they were in grade school. I'd add glycerin to the water and soap blend to make the bubbles stronger. I could have used some last night!

I'm retired with too much time on my hands. Imagination and getting creative with music and photography give me a reason to get out of bed in the morning.

Bucky! I was quite interested in his ideas, once upon a time. He was a national treasure.

and left it out in the cold. A time laps vid showed how the bubble froze. Way cool

I found a good tutorial on making frozen bubbles.. I live in Florida so this would not work for me..
It was 47 this morning and I was a popsicle. I know.....cold weather wimp..

Thanks for the link! I'm using the same formula sans the corn syrup, which I don't have on hand. When the daytime temps get into the teens here in PA, I'll do the experiment outdoors. Here are my freezer bubbles:

It looks like The Brain from the cartoon "Pinky and The Brain"--or a little ale-e-inn.

I love pareidolia!

Thanks for the chuckle, NJCher!

Guess what? I actually froze a bubble! After 15 minutes in the freezer it was frosty but without the snowflake-like crystals. I'm giving it another shot now with a longer freeze time. Ultimately, it might require changing the formula.
