The flux capacitor was a fictional device invented by "Professor Brown"
in the "Back To The Future" movie franchise starring Michael Fox and
Christopher Lloyd. The device was incorporated into a DeLorean sports car
and when the car reached 80mph it could travel through time...

The first movie at least is extremely good fun.
