Last hike(s) of the season(s)

Last edited Wed Jan 17, 2024, 10:52 AM - Edit history (1)

It been in the low single digits with more snow than usual so I thought I'd post some pics of my favourite easy-to-get-to, still somewhat unused trail. The first three were taken on Halloween of 2022, the next in November this past year and both taken a day or so before each seasons' first big snow make access to the trailhead difficult.

Boise Peak:

Looking towards the bottom of the drainage, about an hour away:

Back at the trailhead:

The Gateway:

A cold, frosty day today with another dump expected tonight. The drainage and trail system are to the right and below the peak in the center:

I've been hiking/skiing that drainage for almost 45 years. Ponderosa/Fir, plenty of wildlife. It was a great berry year this year but I havent seen a bear for a couple of years now — though always a lot of dinner plate sized scat. Despite explosive growth in the use of our area's lower trails, I usually dont see anyone else on this upper one. Gawd, I love it up there.

Around here September, October and most of November are better than most places I've lived. I'd agree, fall is my favourite season.

July and August are pretty hot and dry here in the valley - even up there it'll get to 85ish sometimes, but the few months after are worth the sweat.

I'm told that the best camera to take photos with is the one you have with you! Cell phones certainly qualify.

In fact, if you hadn't mentioned that your cell phone took these photos, I would never have known. No worries!

Hope to see more of your work!

Though I'm blessed with knees and hips that still take direction from my will, I've become more cautious each year. A casual "I'm going to 'church' ", lets my wife know where I'll be unless going elsewhere.

I look at that mountain every day. I've climbed others in the area but never that one.
