We don't usually see roses as a Christmas flower, at least where I live in the midwest.
But the red red single perfect rose in the middle of the greenery, some of it winter greenery,
is unusual and stunning.

I really like how we can see the textures of the rose, leaves, and the distant white flowers in the background.
I don't know what it is called when they are a bit blurry, which I really like because it makes the perfect
clarity of the rose pop out, it feels like it is right here with the viewer.

In California, roses are good any old time, for any reason. As you pointed out, some of the greenery is wintry in nature.

The background being a bit blurry is called bokeh. And the fact that it makes the clarity of the rose pop out is exactly why the photo does that.

It does bring the rose closer!

I know virtually nothing about art and photography but you cannot miss this feature in your photo.
It is really neat how it just brings that rose so close you can almost smell it.

I am in Ohio and we don't use roses much in holiday decor.
Except for non holiday type events like anniversaries perhaps.
Men get women roses for anniversaries or birthdays, etc.

So it was neat to see a rose used this way for a Christmas picture.

What was the purpose for placing the reddish plant in the other back corner.
I know it was there for a reason.

I'm not altogether sure since I cropped this photo down from its original size, in order to show off the rose.

But the reddish leaves look a lot like the ones on the poinsettia.

Sorry to be late replying; it was my dinnertime!

The reddish plant in your photo looks more like a succulant of some sort?
Which gives it that more unusual or edgy feel, different from a traditional Christmas floral arrangement.
(Which is one reason I like your photo work here.)

I didn't expect to find so much understanding as to why I posted it.

The red hair and black leather comes from one of my fav songs... Great finger picken'

Oh, says Red Molly to James, "That's a fine motorbike
A girl could feel special on any such like"
Says James to Red Molly, "My hat's off to you
It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952
And I've seen you at the corners and cafés, it seems
Red hair and black leather, my favourite colour scheme"
And he pulled her on behind
And down to Box Hill they did ...........ride

I've posted before that although you have equipment to make this image, it's your eye for composition that really makes it.

The composition, the color, the texture.

The surprise of a rose with some Christmas greenery, the softened images in the back
but then the perfect clarity of the red rose which just pops right out at you.

I know nothing about photography so sorry if I am not describing it correctly.
