Even in pictures it looks quiet. That is what has always amazed me about a snowfall: the sudden stillness and quiet.

stays indoors. There were children playing a short while later.
As a child in Ottawa we used to pay for hours outside until our parents dragged us back into the house to prevent hypothermia.
Fun times.

actually plowing for the most part, is the job of the hausmeister. This one, or the service, at my new place isn't as good as the previous place.

and some of the S-Bahn/U-Bahn lines. The ones that are surface routes. There normally isn't a need for special train snow plows.
they are postponing the Bayern Munchen football game because you can't get there by the U-Bahn.

in high school, I didn't mind it, actually enjoyed it. Then after a year on the DMZ I promised myself to never be cold again if possible. We saw it -65 for just a few days.

than a little further north. We are at the base of the foothills for the Alps.
The prevailing winds come mostly from the north and west. This causes teh clouds to pile up and drop precipitation .
This might be a near record. It certainly is the most snow dumped at one time in Munich for the last 8/9 years. It may be more than the total for last year.
I hope some of it gets over the hill into the Rhein watershed. that river has been running low for 2-3 years. That causes havok for shipping, especially oil to Switzerland.
