After 24 hours of snow, 80 cm, 24 inches, here is the view from our kitchen window and balcony.

As a child in Ottawa we used to pay for hours outside until our parents dragged us back into the house to prevent hypothermia.
Fun times.

(4,933 posts)actually plowing for the most part, is the job of the hausmeister. This one, or the service, at my new place isn't as good as the previous place.

(4,933 posts)and some of the S-Bahn/U-Bahn lines. The ones that are surface routes. There normally isn't a need for special train snow plows.
they are postponing the Bayern Munchen football game because you can't get there by the U-Bahn.

(9,377 posts)in high school, I didn't mind it, actually enjoyed it. Then after a year on the DMZ I promised myself to never be cold again if possible. We saw it -65 for just a few days.

(4,933 posts)than a little further north. We are at the base of the foothills for the Alps.
The prevailing winds come mostly from the north and west. This causes teh clouds to pile up and drop precipitation .
This might be a near record. It certainly is the most snow dumped at one time in Munich for the last 8/9 years. It may be more than the total for last year.
I hope some of it gets over the hill into the Rhein watershed. that river has been running low for 2-3 years. That causes havok for shipping, especially oil to Switzerland.
