Related: About this forumThe Fire Lookout Life: Nighttime in a Glass Hut on Middle Sister Peak - Idaho
The fire seasons over, and I am safely back home after a 2900+ mile drive from the Pacific Northwest to my home on the east coast. After the initial problems on Independence Day weekend, I had no more incidents. Measures were put in place, and it was made obvious to the public using the National Forest that the lookout was a US Government facility and was protected as such.
I now think that I was over-cautious in not identifying my forest location here on DU. I was in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests.
In fact, I found the people of the Idaho panhandle to be some of the best I have had the chance to be around in my years of doing fire watch. There was never any discussion of politics, religion, and after that July 4 incident, no firearms (on open display). Even crazy Coeur d'Alene was a very wonderful place.
But the heavy rains of August brought my fire season to an end. I plan to be back in the same lookout tower next year.

(17,185 posts)3. Guessing you learned how to get some drone shots recently
I've enjoyed these "from the outside" but your close-ups in your snuggy-hole have been very nice too. What a life you've led.
Do you have a book or blog with more narrative and photos?
