sometimes astrophotography DOES work :)

tried again with the right filter. plus i learned a new processing method

The western veil nebula also called the withces broom (NGC 6960). the wider version also shows whats called pickerings triangle in the upper right
the nebula is a supernova remnant about 2500 light years away
the star which went supernova was about 20 times as massive as the sun and exploded 10-20,000 years ago. when it exploded it would have been bright enough to see in the daytime

a total of 6 hours of data from my backyard last night/this morning

Mistakes are never fun, but when you use them as an opportunity to learn and improve your craft--well then, it was worth it!

First rate work!
