(70,625 posts)Back in the 70's a promoter named Dex Card used to do 3 band bills at available places in the Chicago market.
The 75,000 person town we lived in had an ice rink (covered, but not indoor) and an armory.
But, Joliet had a rule that one couldn't get the park district facilities, or use parking for the facilities unless one was working with a local organization that provided some help to the community and charity.
My dad was a big wheel with the K of C's so he worked with Dex. That meant me, my cousin and two friends got back stage passes to those gigs, every Monday from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
For a couple years (maybe 3) BOC would be there, early in the summer and then later while swinging back to the east coast. So, we actually became very friendly with those guys.
Favorite piece: First time we go backstage and are comfortable enough to just hang out, we see Buck Dharma and i intorudce myself and he says "Call me Don." After that he was Don.
