Finlandia, Op. 26 is a symphonic poem by the Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius.

The first version was written in 1899. It was revised in 1900. The piece was composed for the Press Celebrations of 1899, a covert protest against increasing censorship from the Russian Empire, as the last of seven pieces, each performed as an accompaniment to a tableau depicting episodes from Finnish history.

10. Bread: Everything I Own

David Gates (lead singer) wrote this for his father, who passed away before the band gained success.

https://m.

You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you

And I would give anything I own
I'd give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

You taught me how to love
What it's of, what it's of
You never said too much
But still you showed the way
And I knew from watching you

Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go

And I would give anything I own
I'd give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

Is there someone you know
You're loving them so
But taking them all for granted?
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And they don't hear the words you long to say

I would give anything I own
I'd give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Just to touch you once again

I wore their "Baby I'm a Want You" album out. Even had bangs once because of Bread.

I always loved "If" from their Manna LP

?si=Pd2ZRFMohwNukpA6

If a picture paints a thousand words,
Then why can't I paint you?
The words will never show the you I've come to know.

If a face could launch a thousand ships,
Then where am I to go?
There's no one home but you,
You're all that's left me too.

And when my love for life is running dry,
You come and pour yourself on me.

If a man could be two places at one time,
I'd be with you.
Tomorrow and today, beside you all the way.

If the world should stop revolving spinning slowly down to die,
I'd spend the end with you.
And when the world was through,
Then one by one the stars would all go out,
Then you and I would simply fly away.

The beauty of their songs couldn't be denied, even for this kid who was into the British invasion and the progenitors of heavy metal like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple.

Deep Purple, backed up by a newer band called ZZ Topp.

I missed a golden opportunity to see The Who, but had/have several of their albums.

Ten Years After at the Chicago Stadium in 1975 came back for a 3rd encore, after the lights came on. Most of the crowd remained, with sustained cheering. Those of us on the main floor started banging the chairs and doing the Woodstock chant.

Alvin Lee was an underrated guitar god, despite filling the big venues back then.

If you love movies and never heard this gem by Ray Davies (an all too often overlooked songwriting genius), then do yourself a favor and watch this video.
