They showed the generation that rap can go beyond the level of gangsta street rap and give reason to move their feet.
Unsurprisingly, hit maker Rick Rubin was the producer behind their sound.

Before this MTV was strictly balladeers and arena rock videos with a little rock 'n soul mixed in..
I read a book chronicling Rick Rubin's incredible career from his college days as DJ Double R through producing a slew of number one songs that continues today.

In it he tells of how hard it was to convince both bands that a "Walk This Way" battle would kill.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a wide horizon of music and wants to sit in at the studio. He spent some time as head of Columbia Records.
