Are there "five great violin concertos?"

When we're in the car, trying to identify music and it's a violin concerto, I run through what I thought were "the five," Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Bruch and Sibelius. But I heard the Sibelius today and it was totally not familiar. Didn't sound "great" either. Are there five? If so, what are they?

Maybe try out some different recordings with different soloists. It may grow on you after that. Some might say it doesn't have the immediate appeal the other four concertos seem to have.

FYI I like the recordings by Pinchas Zukerman and Anne Sophie Mutter but there are many great ones out there to select from...

The "great" are almost purely subjective, just like music and art and many others.
Personally, and I may have had my head buried in the sand but, I have never heard of the "five great violin concerti" being called that. Whether they were the ones mentioned or any of the others that are still extant.
