So, I want to share a pic of a painting that I inherited from my Aunt and Uncle. (Painted by: Josef M. Arentz)

When they built their house in Biddeford Pool, ME in 1960, this painting was in the living/dining room. It's pretty special to me, but wondering if there is any info on the painter. Painting is 23"H x 34" wide

Info on the backside-

It's mystical...the painter captures a typical early summer sunrise off the coast of Maine. Fog burning off @ 7:30AM OAITW r.2.0 Jan 25 #2

One other point of note. The clarity of his ocean painting changes from the main mast right. OAITW r.2.0 Jan 26 #6
Why the "Copyright Reserved"? What did that mean in 1960? OAITW r.2.0 Jan 26 #7

He was born in 1903 and died in 1969. He painted mainly seascapes. Paintings of his at auction are valued at $300 to $1500.

He sold the painting to my Uncle, I think...as payment for care? Unc was a well known GP in the area in the 50s-70s.

...although I do have one on retainer.

I think this is essentially the same thing as "All Rights Reserved" which I remember seeing on all sorts of stuff back in the 60s.

For example, the art could not be copied, reproduced and distributed without permission.

So it is a copyright claim.
