Can you recommend a reliable coin dealer?
I'm thinking of buying a coin a month from some of the money I make from a part time job.

(21,345 posts)Find a person in your area that is really into metal detecting and coin collecting. There is a lot of intersection between the two groups.
Ask this person questions…who are the reputable coin dealers in your area? What dealers are good for bullion? What dealers are good for collectible coins? Who would they buy from? Who would they sell to?
In my experience, there will be one or two solid dealers in a metropolitan area…and a lot of “buy/sell gold for cash!!!” type of places (avoid those like the plague).
Buy local…you can look at it, examine it, compare it, etc. You can’t do that over the internet.
Also, go to local coin shows. Not necessarily to buy, but just to get a feel. There will be both bullion and “collectible” coins there. It will give you a good feel for things in your area.

Like most collectibles, it’s all about condition and grading.

My husband has collected coins for ever. Rogue Valley Coin is fair, knowledgeable, and honest. Talk to Mike.
