The best investment I have ever made.

A box of business cards with my phone number on them.

Some of my best buys have been the results of that $40 spent. Yesterday I stopped at a house that had no yard sign, just a few items lined up in the yard. Some old weed whips, lawnmowers, tires and a few items I couldn't make out driving by. Went a mile down the road and decided to turn around and go back.
Lady saw my car and came out to talk. Her dad had a stroke and has to move in with her. He is my age 72. Said there is a lot to get rid of. Gave her my card and hope she calls. She couldn't think of things off the top of her head, but when I asked about records, old car stuff and items from the 60s, she said lots of that.
I've got many call backs and lots of good buys, so I always have a few in my wallet and more in the car. I've posted them in stores on their boards and have got calls 3 year later from them.

I really love my job.

And yes, having some kind of card with name and number is super handy to carry around. One never knows when one will meet someone interesting, a politician, an expert in something, and so on.

My retirement gig. Travel the roads looking for interesting items to buy and sell. Been in this business for over 30 years and when I retired from 30 years of working for a cooperation 20 years ago, I spend lots of time on the road looking for items for my 2 booths at the antique mall.
