Getting ready for a yard sale May 7
I was going to keep it small, but every time I go to the basement, I find more things to put in. I have to bring the stuff upstairs, because I'll have the sale out the side door. And I don't have a lot of tables, trying to think what I used last year.
It is a lot of work. My daughter brought several more boxes of my stuff from her storage, and the boxes had gotten damp. A few things were ruined and I tossed them. I made a buckey of Lysol and dunked or wiped everything I could, rewrapped in fresh paper, into new boxes, took things for the sale. I hope people are like me and wash everything they get at sales before they use them!

(34,322 posts)I don't like to haggle on prices, so I never have sales at home.
I buy at sales and rarely ask for a lower price. I find enough stuff at reasonable prices. If they have good prices I buy lots of stuff. Like today I bought a lot of great items at a good price, the price she on it, came to $14 I handed her $15 and said keep the dollar.
I resell at the mall, so I don't have to deal with it. My prices are lower than most and I sell more than most. 80% of my sales are to dealers that have tax id numbers.
What I don't sell goes to local charities.
Price sells. I hope you have fun.

(19,323 posts)You sound like how we did it. I'm trying to clean out the house, sheds, storage, after a lifetime of fun Nothing like going on a toot at auctions and yard sales I've given a lot away and will have a table with free stuff at my sale.
In case you are interested:
The National Road (U.S. Rt 40) sale is June 1-5th this year. You can find it on facebook or Google it. The Lincoln Highway (U.S. 30) Buyway is Aug. 11-12-13 this year. In Ohio, it intersects with the Longest Yard sale (U.S. Rt. 127), if the dates are right. This year, they aren't. Longest Yardsale is Aug. 4-7th.
We shopped the Lincoln Buyway and the National Road sales, just in Ohio. Got a lot of wonderful things, good prices, just fun to look. It is like Halloween for grown-ups

I live about 3 miles from 127 in Mid Michigan and that'd be about a 4 hour drive. I'd think about it if gas was about half the price it is now. When I lived in Ohio, I use to love going down Old U.S 30..
Be sure to report back on how it goes.

(19,323 posts)I had a sale last year, and I have no clue what happened to them. Making do with what I have around. I had a bistro table to assemble, so I did that today. I assembled one last year, but for some reason, kept putting off getting the 2nd one together. After I started, I remembered why it was still in the box 17 months after I got it. It is hard to put togther! There is the glass top, 4 metal legs, 2 circle things that the legs screw to in 2 places, 8 screws with washers, a very thin wrench, and some caps for the screwheads. The legs fit (haha) into these plastic cups around the under rim of the tabletop. They are not aligned, which I remembered after I started trying to fit the legs in, which by the way, don't fit. Or stay put. I ended up, probably like last time, trying pliers, Vice Grips, an incomplete rachet set (incomplete in that there wasn't a socket that fit the screw head) a different wrench, and another pair of pliers. I understand now why my Dad drank straight whiskey when he worked in his tool shop and why he didn't want us kids in there when he was working on something. I didn't drink today, but I sure cussed. It was so hard to assemble the table, I was amzed it took only about 30 minutes. The second pair of pliers worked the best, and when the screwheads were close enough to the leg of the table, I could use the incredibly thin wrench that came with the table to get the screws completely tight. I let my granddaughter put the caps on the screws. I took 2 ibuprofen and plan to avoid curling my fingers the rest of the day.
I won't know till morning if we will have the sale. It has been rainy, and it might rain tomorrow. We have a flood watch in effect. But, by golly, if I don;t have a yard sale, I can open a bistro!
