I got a call today from an Americans Pickers rep
Either me or one of my kids got in touch with them a couple of years ago. I heard somewhere that they were going to be in Ohio this year, but I was surprised to hear from the show after all this time.
The rep asked me several questions, and now wants me to send pictures. They followed up with an email. We'll see if I get through the next step. lol I started taking pictures this evening. I'm running things past my family to be sure there aren't other things they wanted that I would like to sell.
I've been working on sorting the stuff I have at the house, and I'm ready to part with stuff I sorted through. I realized what I want to keep, and set it aside. I am keeping family heirlooms, family papers, gifts, and really old stuff. I guess I'm an age snob
My husband and I collected for our whole marriage. I still enjoy reasearching items, but no more collecting. I'll post as this project moves, or doesn't.

What part of Ohio?
We drove to Caldwell several years ago, to see a man with stuff for sale. He said the pickers had come to his neighbor's, so that was pretty cool.

(4,303 posts)The prices they give for the old crap are just nonsense. Good luck though. Hope you make it on the show..
I said that on one hand, they will say rust is gold, then on the other, will say something is in bad shape and they don't want it. I liked the show better when they displayed a variety of things, but the focus narrowed to signs and cars. It seemed.

(24,087 posts)I hope youre on the show! I agree that their program wasnt as interesting when they focused in old signs, especially oil company signs and vintage cars...but, maybe the heard similar feedback from others and will expand their subject matter. You never know! Best wishes.

(19,323 posts)and Antiques Roadshow were the only reality shows we watched. I dropped cable tv over a year ago, so haven't watched much tv at all. When I watch my grandkids, I watch TWC early, and then my granddaughter puts it on the cartoon network. I'll hve to catch up.

(4,303 posts)For example, I read that on the Iron Chef show the competing chefs are given a list of three possible secret ingredients and they know which one it will probably be so they can plan their dishes. They only prepare one dish on the show. Sous-chefs prepare the dishes that are tasted by the judges after the chefs are done.

(25,421 posts)It is as scripted and contrived as a sitcom of drama.
Have fun though.

(6,309 posts)Some of y'all have been watching a completely different American Pickers than I've been watching since they started. Love the show plus the wide variety of items they look at and sometimes buy. Those two guys have been doing this for a long long time, and although it has been more organized 4 television, they are 100% legit. I just got through watching their special about how they started and how Mike Wolfe started out recording on his cell phone for his own personal use.
Oh yeah, there are a lot of shows that I do not like, and I'm pretty sure no one gives a tinker's damn whether I do or not.

(19,323 posts)I stopped watching in 2017. It seemed like the shows of 14-15-16 were not showing many things I wanted to know about, or could afford to buy.
I'll take pictures and they can decide if they want to stop by. I started collecting out of the closets in my parents' house when I was 8. When we got married, my husband embraced collecting wholeheartedly. lol

(6,309 posts)I have always enjoyed the show. As a matter of fact I have it on my favorites list to record every new show. If someone asked me some of the things that I would have done differently in my past, one thing is that I would have been a picker. Congratulations, and I hope you make a lot of money. I would be curious know how it went if you would be willing to come back and tell us about your experience with American Pickers. Good luck!

(19,323 posts)I was looking on Google to see if anyone writes about their experience with the show, but haven't found any links. I'd like to see how the process works.

(11,444 posts)footage from over 10 years ago that has never been seen before. Hope Danielle isn't leaving. I read somewhere she might get her own show and leave the Pickers even though she is close friends with Mike Wolfe and his wife.
Some of the shows can get boring when they spend so much time on motorcycles and bicycles. Other than that complaint, it's one of the few reality shows worth watching. The History Channel has really gone down in recent years.

(19,323 posts)I found a copy of The American Pickers, published in 2011. If they come, maybe I'll see if they'll sign it for me. What a souvenir
I took a break from papers and pictures to sort tubs today. Whether the pickers come or not, I am focused on cleaning out the house. At least sorting.
