I'm through with eBay
I'm a 10+ year seller with a 100% feedback rating.
About three months ago, paypal started to hold all payments for 21 days before posting to my account. This was no big deal. I could live with that.
About six months ago, it was strongly suggested to stop charge for shipping and to offer the service for free. To make up for the shipping charges, just increase the minimum price. Of course eBay now get a commission on the shipping charges. This was no big deal. I could live with that.
On Friday, I get a message from eBay that they want a credit card on file to give refunds to dissatisfied buyers. That's why they are holding the PP payments for.
Message from rBay:
Attention Sellers:
Please place a reimbursement payment method on file
We show that you don't have a reimbursement payment method (credit card) on file with us. Sellers must have a reimbursement payment method on file to pay for claims under eBay's Buyer Protection Policy. We'll need you to provide this information today to continue listing your items on eBay.
eBay's Buyer Protection Policy generally covers buyers for most purchases on eBay. If eBay has refunded the buyer for claims covered under the eBay Buyer Protection Policy, we'll charge the amount due to eBay using the automatic method you select. The eBay Buyer Protection Policy is subject to change and we'll charge you in accordance with the Policy as it existed on the date of the transaction at issue. eBay may charge the payment method you select on a one-time, sporadic, or recurring basis. You can always change your selected payment method in My eBay or cancel your automatic payment method by contacting us. Learn more about what eBay's Buyer Protection Policy means for sellers.
It's quick and easy to do. Click here to open a new window and select your reimbursement payment method. Once you're done, you'll be able to review and submit your listing.
That's it. I've had it.

(26,624 posts)eBay through PayPal owns Bill Me Later and they have been involved in many questionable financial transactions.
If someone has a dispute with eBay or PayPal or Bill Me Later it probably is outside the jurisdiction of a state's small claims court and there is no federal court process for hearing small claims.
ebay/PayPal/Bill Me Later can uses its nation wide presence to harm the credit rating of a single person but avoid the short arm of the law.
It's interesting how quickly such companies become ruthless financial thugs no different than their ilk targeted by OWS.

(4,378 posts)they forced you to use it, for which they got a cut. Personal checks or money orders were no longer allowed.

(6,539 posts)We were selling quite a bit of misc stuff and had 100% feedback on over 500 transactions. The last thing I sold was a book for $8.50. After fees and shipping, my profit was $1.45. It would appear to me, that in order to make any profit on ebay, you have to steal the stuff to begin with.

(7,611 posts)On a recent attempted online payment, (actually I remember it was for the last contribution to DU) the only way I could pay was through Paypal (online); or you could send in a check; I have used Paypal for many purchases online, and always paid through a credit card, although Paypal at some point always made payment through debit to your bank as the default way to pay; I always changed it to the credit card. I don't like to use debit cards at all, especially through Paypal. NOW, I was unable to change to credit card; the page said the credit card would be used only if the bank account had insufficient funds. So, I cancelled my contribution to DU. I meant to contact DU about it.
Does anyone else have a problem with bank debits through Paypal???
I will not purchase on EBay if this is the only method of payment there.

(14,807 posts)was told the same thing. They would hold my money. I have super high praise and %100 rating there. Called and spoke to five different people. Here are the reasons that I was told:
It is for YOUR protection
It is because one person did not leave feedback
It is becasue you need 20 sales
It is becasue you are new (not and they have a record of me since 1990's under a different name and email since we moved)
It is because of Ebay having a reason to do this to you
It is because Paypal has a reason to do this to you
It is new policy
We will release funds after you post a tracking number
We may hold your funds up to 31 days
We may hold your funds indefinitely
This is only for Ebay transactions
This is for any sales in or out of Ebay
a few more that I cannot remember......
Yet my husband has less than perfect score and had a couple of disputes and yet he has had no notice.
I really do not know what to do........but I do know that they are crooks. The amount they took from the last sales was staggering. I have had free shipping for a long time too. I hope the two lawsuits come up with something. There needs to be a huge investigation.

(4,378 posts)I recently shipped out 6 items that were sold and I received 1, count em, one feedback. I have sold over 8K items and have received feedback on less than half. Most of those were several years ago when people played by the rules. Nowdays I receive feedback on less that 25% of sales.
And eBay wants to base it on feedback.....................
They can kiss my ass.

(14,807 posts)less desirable "item" sellers. Some say they want to be another Amazon. They are inconsistent and aggressive IMHO.

(4,378 posts)In addition to eBay. Leave eBay the way it was conceived to be when it first started.
When Meg Whitman took over eBay, it started going downhill.

(14,807 posts)they said they will still evaluate me. Wha????????? I haven't sold a thing on there since they did that to me. I think I will test try a couple small items and see what happens.

(4,378 posts)At the end, it had a comment section.
I really let em have it. I told them exactly what I thought of their policy. They have rescinded the 21 day hold.
The 1%ers can deposit large sums of money in banks and collect interest on 24 hour deposits. How much money was ebay making from interest on mine and your money?
I listed 4 items last Sun. One sold on a BIN and I got the money immediately.

(1 post)Same thing happened to me in June 2012. I sold some Indian banknotes (as collector's items) to an eBay buyer in India, with only 20 or so transactions on his record. I had to open a case against him just to get him to pay, and then he refused to pay the extra S&H for registered mail, even though I advised him it would be unwise to have them sent by ordinary airmail. Sure enough, he claimed he never got the envelope, and I had no tracking number because Canada Post doesn't give you a tracking number for non-registered items. I told this to eBay but they said "no tracking number, we take the buyer's word for it". Again, all automated responses and no consideration of my position except for a phone call to a person at eBay's so-called resolution centre, who said ... see above. Not only that, they debited my PayPal account for the refund to the buyer of not only the sale price but the S&H charge too! Now they're announcing "enhanced seller protection" to start in the fall. Too late in my case and I won't be selling anything on eBay ever again. Also won't be using PayPal, which pretty much moves in lockstep with eBay as the OP details, and why not since they have joint ownership (apparently).

(50,130 posts)....and not bothered going after him for payment. Someone who is balking against paying the seller is just going to be trouble.
I wonder what this "enhanced seller protection" is.

(51,235 posts)I think I bitched on here about the guy who bought an expensive vase from me. I shipped it to Great Britain and the last tracking information was leaving the U.S. He claimed he never received it and I got stuck refunding the whole shebang. Sure enough, about 2 months later a package appears at my post office. It's the vase and the package is covered with all kinds of markings that tells me it arrived at its destination and the guy refused it. Most likely he didn't want to pay the VAT tax. It really pissed me off and ebay would do nothing about it.

(2,921 posts)and I don't like how the overseas cost us money for so little items.
So we have to calculate the shipping cost in our pricings now.
If I could find a place online to buy gold scraps online, I'd be out of eBay in a heartbeat.
