Losing a beloved pet is beyond painful. You're in my thoughts.

You did the best you could for him, and he went very loved and not alone. It's all you could do. It's that last act of love when you break your heart so they don't have to suffer anymore.

I'm so sorry for your loss, True Blue Texan. I know how awful that loss is. I'm glad Emo is running free over the rainbow bridge, and I hope you find peace.

... but remember you put all in to make him comfortable and happy during his stay here on earth. Many joyful moments were shared by all.

Been through that several times and will do it at least twice more (unless they outlive me and/or my wife). It's never, ever easy.

But the years of joy are worth the heartbreak in the end. That's why we keep doing it.

I am very touched by your compassion and by so many pet lovers here who really do understand this pain. I can't look at his picture yet, but I know healing will come eventually.... Hubby and I are going to hear a local band playing at the lake this evening, trying to feel better. Thank you for all your kindnesses.

Been through it twice to date, and our current dog will be 15 soon.

It's the hardest thing...my sincere condolences.

There are times when you think you're going to be ok, that you can handle it without crumbling, then the sight of something will draw you back into the depth of your loss. I've done grief so many times, I know how this works, but I still am sometimes fooled by the moments of distraction when I think I'll be healed quickly. It just takes as long as it takes and you can relieve it at moments, but it will have its due.

We are going to plant a small flower garden on our boy's grave in the back yard, where he and I shared so many wonderful mornings and evenings. The flowers will remind me he is always with me, even if his body is no longer here.
