It's a silly song but fun happy upbeat and fits the musical/movie. Many song from musicals can sound odd when they become hits out of context.

The first day we were looking to the NCO’s “What do we do?” Attention? Parade rest? They said stand at ease.
The second day we were ALL like “What IS this crap?” Even the country music guys hated it. They’d never heard of Lee Greenwood. One of the older guys (Louisiana) said he remembered it from the YEARS AGO when it was released and that he and his buddies hated it then.

The third day we were told we could leave since we’d been dismissed. We got looks for walking around while other units were still in formation. Well, at least we got to chow first.
