The Godmother of Rock 'n Roll, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, born today 111 years ago

It's hard to believe such masterful rockin' was happening so long ago. Happy birthday, Sister.

You could say that Rock n Roll was born 111 years ago today in Arkansas, but probably not where you'd think. Before there was a Chuck Berry or Little Richard, there was those who wanted to be like her.

Rosetta Nubin better known as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the godmother of Rock was born on this day

She went on tour to UK in 1964 and performed at a Manchester railway station in the rain. She also pioneered some of the "strut" moves adopted by rock stars.
