(76,706 posts)...to get that cheesy organ sound.
I named the program "96?" because of that song.
Later, on every instrument I had a similar patch, I named them "Cheesy Organ".
The organ used on that song was a Vox Continental. I had the little brother; the Jaguar.
They sounded essentially the same, but the Continental had much more tone control.
But, I owned it when we were doing Deep Purple or Uriah Heep, so I ran is through a guitar distortion box to get that growl, not the thin, clear, reedy sound.
Was built like a tank! There are likely many of these organs still around in perfect working order, despite being 60 years old.

(9,990 posts)Two adolescent brothers discuss the essence of manhood and have their arms tattooed in order to demonstrate their manliness. After seeing the results, the parents beat them, although for entirely different reasons. In the ensuing years, the brother who narrates the song finds himself tattooed head to toe, as is his wife. Since the song was released in 1967 when tattoos were far less common than today, it seems way ahead of its time.

(39,900 posts)Bobby Vees song was released in 1962, but the video was made in 1963, the same year the first Beach Blanket film was made so I wonder if they just rented the beach stage set. Campy as it gets

(1,301 posts)It's a song about the success of being a touring musician but missing family back home. The words and music are well matched, especially the use of chimes in the music.
