(22,779 posts)They thought they were buying from an American source, but tracking revealed the things were coming from our of the country. My friend got a notice from the p.o. that there were several packages for them, that were from "potentially fraudulent addresses" There was significant postage due. They had to go to the p.o. to either refuse the packages or pay the postage. They wanted the gifts, so paid the postage. My friend realized that sellers might pass on the tariff charges either to the p.o. or add to the cost of the items.
My friend is a reliable source.
You might get in touch with the third party or the wig company, and see what their current policy is.

If I buy local, I know the tariff is included, plus trying the systems on seems like a good idea

(3,748 posts)The tariff is charged by the U.S. government when a product enters the country. It would be a huge hassle for a small seller in a foreign country to take on the responsibility of calculating the U.S. tariff, which could change at any time, and then paying it to U.S. Customs. So it seems logical that you would be responsible for that.
I wanted to order some Christmas gifts from overseas sellers this past Christmas (items that are not available in the U.S.), but I did not for precisely this reason.
However, if the wig is sold through a third-party seller based in the U.S. (through sites like Amazon, eBay, etc.), then most likely the tariff is included in the price.
