The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIt was a real barrel of laughs here yesterday.
Standing at the bathroom sink, shirtless, cutting my hair, shaving my beard off.
I had the right half of my beard buzzed off with the clippers when I noticed that my eyebrows were going all Andy Rooney like.
Now, I usually put a 1/8 inch guard on the electric trimmer to do my eyebrows. For some reason, I thought I had the guard on the clippers, but I didn't. So I hit my right eyebrow with the clippers. Shaved the eyebrow completely off. Completely. I have prominent eyebrows and eyelashes, so I looked like a different person.
I'm standing there with half a beard and one eyebrow.
Fuck.
Wife comes upstairs. Grabs my shoulders, and says "turn towards me"
NO.
Look at me!
NO.
She's turning purple and shaking because she's trying not to laugh.
I MADE A GODDAMN MISTAKE, OK????
Then, she started HOWLING with laughter. ALL DAY. Never seen her laugh so hard.
I shaved off my other eyebrow and the rest of my beard.
She's still laughing about it. Ha ha. Real funny.
I just told her...laugh now, because you won't be laughing next time I cut YOUR hair.

(71,068 posts)... brother's haircut. I had a choice between leaving it or a complete buzz. I went for the style 60 years before it became hip, I was half buzzed before my time. Sort of a negative mohawk.
Btw: your wife told me to say: ha-ha-ha. I hope I spelled that right!

Reminds me of the time I squirted lighter fluid in the smoker cuz I stupidly thought it was out.
Blow back flames took my beard, eyebrows and made a mess of the front third of my hair
it grows back
not well but it grows back.

(21,785 posts)I burned my pubic hair off in a port-o-john at a Grateful Dead concert in Louisville KY in 1990.
I've probably posted about it before. The gist of it is that the port-o-john was in some type of stable, and it was pitch black inside there, so I was using a Bic lighter to try to see.

Walked back to my seat.
Future wife said "What took you so long"?
I just looked at her and said "I burned all my pubic hair off".
It was a good concert though!

(22,724 posts)years ago. We had a burn barrel. I had the windows open and was cleaning. I heard a muffled whump. Not a normal sound. I went outside to check and met my husband coming from around the side of the house. His hair was singed, his eyebrows were gone and he had a look of indignation that's hard to describe. Because of the new look, as I was trying to not burst into laughter, I asked if he was okay and treated him in case he was burned (he wasn't)
Later he told me that he had decided to burn some things, and to get the fire in the burn barrel going, he put some gas on it. It didn't take, so, because he was a guy, he tossed a match in and whump!
After I knew he was okay, I laughed myself silly.

(8,289 posts)He had one of those cast iron Hibachis and my sister let him be the outdoor grill master (other than that, she was smart and generally made good decisions).
One time, he was getting impatient at how long it was taking the coals to get hot. Reached for his standby emergency gasoline can and poured some on the barely glowing coals. He was standing nearly straddling the Hibachi at the time.
Oh, and he is very short.
Nearly a fire induced castration, but none of us could stop laughing as my sister hauled his ass to the bathroom to asses damage. Leg hair gone, but the rest just slightly, um... overly warm.

I'm ruined!
I hope you had a nice day today.
Niagara
(11,525 posts)You shaved them, you didn't get electrolysis on them or have them lasered.
It'll probably take about 3-4 weeks to get them all back, 2 weeks with uneven patches for sure.
You're not ruined, you'll be fine!
If it makes you feel any better, I trimmed my left (your right facing me) eyebrow awhile ago and trimmed too much of it off at the arch. Luckily I'm good at filling in eyebrows with makeup and no one has said a word to me about my over trimming. HA!
It was decent day today. I hope that you had a nice day as well.

What about lipstick?
Can you put lipstick on me?
Can you make me feel pretty again?
Oh...also, is there something you can do to make my nose appear a little smaller?
I know I'm asking a lot of you, Niagara.
Niagara
(11,525 posts)But I can apply it on you if you wish.
I can place a tad darker foundation on the sides of your nose to make it look slimmer!

(21,785 posts)I either pluck my brows or buzz them with the guard on.
Or, if I go to a barber, he does them nice for $5 extra. He makes a nice tip on the outer edges that I can't replicate at home.
My tonsorialist has served hard prison time, and is a legitimate regional stand-up comedian with a faithful following for his act.
I went for 5 years without a barber because of the pandemic. Cut my own hair. Started going to this guy just recently. The stories he tells me get me choking laughing.
My wife has gone with me to my barber a few times, and he was legitimately flirting with her heavy...right in front of me! The guy has no filter!
Good to hear from you also.

(7,645 posts)Left the guard off the trimmer by mistake.
Self-inflicted haircut, done ever since Covid years.
Ended up with an unintentional buzz cut, all over.
Good to go for another year.
Some of it will grow back, eventually.
Going commando on the head is more popular these days anyway.
Haven't done the eyebrow accident yet but give me time.
