(249 posts)trump's appointee dejoy has systematically been screwing up our very fine usps for ten years..........he wanted to end it so fedex and ups would instead take our money. Maybe he's gone but the damage has been done. we need to take back the house and senate and right the screw-ups the repugs have visited on us.

(12,361 posts)If you fill out a lost in the mail form...
They will search in Atlanta for it. I got six months of bs telling me things are seldom lost in the mail. After six months, the officially declared it lost in the mail.
I also had in transit for many days. I suspect it was a temp. worker who stole it.

(54,064 posts)From what was posted online in the first big backlog, about 5 years ago, excess can get moved to warehouses until they have room in the system to move them. They may lack sufficient personnel, or have to rent temporary warehouses for the volume. I doubt they spend time looking for pieces of mail, so the system is set to not accept complaints? Or the website may be overwhelmed with requests for searches.
I'm 99% bet your mail will get delivered ... by mid January. Hope this helps.

I'd stay with my local post master, and keep politely following up. The amount of stuff moved during the holiday shipping is phenomenal and I bet that package will arrive. Eventually.

(54,064 posts)There are scams. Rural post offices down south tend to add weight to packages and report for inadequate postage and collection. I think it's an effort to pad their bottom line to avoid closing by USPS, but I could be wrong. The remedy is to always get weight scanned into system at point of dropoff.
I was accused of sending overweight packages at one post office by one screamer. They had 2 scales. Over time I noticed on one scale my packages were about 1.5 ounces underweight, but on the other they were .2 ounces overweight. I used the same home scale for all packages. So if I dropped packages in the post box it could get weighed on the overweight scale.
Another postmistress would not accept packages in the drop box, nor e-labels without her own post office of origin zip code. Such screaming. I think it was local politics.
I got a notice my package was lost. They returned the empty wrapper and promised to search for it or a refund if I mailed it to Atlanta. I did. Never heard a word.
But the post office takes things in stride too. Had a package poorly sealed and they lost parts of it. It was OK, I had replacements. I didn't complain.
And about 25 years ago some guy shipped me a desktop computer via Media Mail, he probably saved about $10. No one questioned it.

(71,104 posts)... packages got et. I told my wife it would happen, she was trying to ship cheaper.
We've both used postal services in a multitude of postal services in other countries and the USPO is the best by far and is the most economical.
Even Canada, I think the Canadian Postal service is where Canada sends all rude Canadians to work. I love Canada totally otherwise.

(76,895 posts)If purchased online, contact seller & ask them to contact USPS.
An item I'd ordered from Amazon was supposedly delivered, but was not in my mailbox as stated.
I called my local USPS & got the typical fuck you consumer attitude this region is famous for.
Then I called Amazon & shared my concern & frustration.
Within about 15 min, my local USPS facility called me to apologize & assure me they had sent my mail carrier out to check every mailbox on my street. Of course, I thanked them & went outside to see if they were being honest.
Yup. Mail person was checking every box & pulled it out of a.neighbor's mailbox, brought it to me & half-ass apologized.
So, whenever something you order goes amiss, pray to the almighty corporate gods to intervene because that's the only was I got action.
Last fall, well before Thanksgiving. grandson sent off an auto oil sample for analysis (who knew such services existed?).
The small package destination was only about 150 miles away.
Now fast forward to about February... and we were still being told "we're still trying to catch up wifh holiday mail..." i asked her "Which holiday? Valentine's day?" Her answer: "Oh no. Christmas."
This is a typical excuse used in many businesses in this red shithole.
Anyway, the package finally arrived safely at the testing lab months after it was sent.
So now, after typing all this, I realize since you paid the postage, you must've mailed it yourself, making all this a moot point.
But I've decided to post it anyway because it could be helpful to others.
Good luck!

(11,530 posts)It's annoying sending packages out in time and they still don't reach their destinations on time.
It sure is annoying!
The Memphis post office is like a small 3rd world country. Just about anything of value poof! disappears. Yet the USPS insists there is "no problem" with the facility. And this has been going on since before magat dejoyless.
Truly like a 3rd world country.
Good luck!

(5,535 posts)One Christmas present from Maine to Maryland was mailed on December 4th, supposed to arrive December 9th. I was very disappointed when it didnt arrive, because I was so proud of myself to have mailed it so early. I assumed it was lost or stolen until it arrived yesterday, December 30th. Hurray! Where had it been? Who knows? (Another same-size package sent to a different Maryland address arrived on December 10.)
I was warned by email Monday night about a bill that was nearly over due. I had sent the check (yeah, old style) 19 days ago. The payment arrived Tuesday, whew! But I had spent an hour trying to track it down and then pay online, then called call the company when that didnt work.
The dark forces really want to kill the US Postal Service, and its working.

I returned a clothing purchase thats going to Indianapolis on Dec 10, tracking still shows In transit. I finally called USPS just yesterday about it and they said it was transferred to their shipping partner - FedEx - and that I could track the package on FedExs website with the same tracking number. Shockingly, that was successful - and it shows that the package is in Indy and should be delivered today. Maybe same situation for you? Try calling the 800 number and if you can get through the damn phone tree to get to a human they might have better luck than the local office figuring that out for you?

to request a postage refund for domestic mail.
https://www.usps.com/help/refunds.htm
https://www.usps.com/help/claims.htm
You've probably already seen these links, but I'll post them here in case you have not.
Also, I'm not sure if these links would help, since your account is being glitchy for you.
It looks like the USPS would consider this to be a lost package because it has been over 7 days.
If you can get the process to work for you, you are certainly entitled to a postage refund, even if the package was not insured. Also, if the package was insured, you are entitled to a refund for the insured contents.
I've had this happen a few times, and in all of my experiences, the package shows up some time later. Sometimes, a LONG time later, unfortunately.
I'm not sure if this is much help to you, but I hope it is.
Good luck.
EDIT TO ADD: if you can't submit a missing mail request via your account, you might try to bring the tracking number to your post office, and maybe they can submit it on their end on your behalf?
Niagara
(11,530 posts)After reading the responses, I'll try to hang on a little bit longer.
If I attempt to submit a missing mail search, I'll definitely see if my post office can help me.
