Going on record today...Officially sick of winter...

And it’s not even winter yet.

Seems like 5 straight days of some kinda snow. Did the obligatory “Oh it’s so beautiful!” , seems like years ago.
THEN…a polar vortex…come on.

I predict a 17 novel winter. Book wise.

Been living in the Catskills for almost 40 years a nice sunny crisp January day and a hike or cross country skiingIs great. If the roads are dry even a nice bike ride on my favorite route past a swimming hole and two waterfalls.

I lived in HI for 5 years it was nice in its own way but the season changes are great. Besides muddy March.

It looks a lot better than all that dead brown stuff, but the older I get the more annoyed I am by snow. Still, I put on my ice cleats so I don't fall on my ancient ass and break a hip, and go for a walk every day, and try to enjoy the fact that at least I'm not getting all sweaty and being chewed up by mosquitoes so big they can fuck a turkey standing flat-footed. Gotta love the Midwest.

It was a super mast year…we knew it would happen because of the catkins in the spring. But old backs…THEN…
right after kinda recovering 9 inches of heavy wet snow, even the snowblower complained.

Now the holidays…exhausted.

As I am always soaked by the time I actually get all that gear on. I absolutely hate it because I am always starting out wet when I go out in this weather.

At least during the summer, I can be wet outside. This time of year, that is a death sentence.

But, I have to say I am amused by your description of the mosquitoes here. They don't seem to be as big as the ones from there swamps of N.C.. But, like the ones from home, they seldom bother me. I never did figure out why this is so, but they don't seem to go for me as much as some others.

Of course, nowadays I have to be extremely careful. Thanks to neuropathy, I can't feel them on me anymore like I used to.

But after my mini-tantrum I bundled up and grabbed the shovel and salt and hit the driveway. Not literally

Its been cold and the snow is sticking around, so this afternoon I'm going to bundle up and head to a local wetlands for a walk. I enjoy watching the ducks frolicking in the freezing water and having the place mostly to myself.

I live in the Midwest. I was looking through my daily planner from a few years ago and noticed that on one day it was 83 in the afternoon, and we had three inches of snow overnight. Never a dull moment.

She's a teacher so at least she got a snow say out of it, lol. Not much snow here in Lansing, but it's cold af.

The only good thing is I get to wear a hat when I go out and it disguises bad hair days.

We usually snowshoe in the winter taking long hikes through the forest and in the past would have been thrilled. This year the old bodies are a little banged up with late harvest chores and a super mast year of black walnuts. Thinking this year winter is for healing…mentally and physically.

Except for some men I have known who have it in odd and rather useless places.

It would be kind of nice to have fur like a snow leopard. Clothing would be unnecessary.

Always a great idea to plan ahead. We save our seeds of the plants we can and enjoy germination trials in the winter…but it’s not winter yet!

On Friday. Not much. Maybe an inch or so. But I did get three novels out of the library today. Nobody here knows how to drive in snow, so I stay off the roads until it's melted.

I called the county highway garage and gave them my approximate location. They said we have a plow truck around 4 miles away, and we'll send him your way. Nice young man hooked up a chain and got us out of the drift, and then plowed the country road ahead. We should have stayed home.

Moved South, as far south as one can go and still be in the Mitten.
Almost 2 inches of snow, but still chilly.
No more big yard to mow in the summer, old age has caught up with me.

I've lived in the Northeast, the South, desert Southwest, Northern and Southern California, England, Germany, and South Korea so I've experienced winter in different climes. I've shoveled snow, driven in snow, iced roads and blizzards, cleared snow off my car, deiced my windshields, and other things. Thank you but, no thank you for winter where it's cold and there's snow.

I'm happy to live in the San Diego region where the coldest it gets is in the low 60s or high 5os and not a flake of snow to be seen except when looking at the local mountains. I like our weather where I can wear shorts 9 -- 10 months of the year and go for a walk without having to put layers of clothes on.

I also don't like winter because it's darker and the plants have gone into hibernation leaving the area to look bleak.

I purchased a condo/townhouse in September 2002 just before I retired from the AF and just before the real estate market took off. It is expensive to here but considering the other parts of the country I've lived in I'll gladly pay the sunshine tax to continue living here.

With ice and snow. It’s cold here in southern OR but not bad and I love sitting by cozy fire.

It’s a time of year I don’t feel guilty for sitting for hours reading a book like I should be outside.
