I won't miss it.

But the dish I wouldn't eat if I were at a dinner and it were offered to me is that God-awful sweet potato and marshmallow mess.

the wife has tried oyster dressing every year for decades and still not got it right. last year $60 in oysters so i have put my foot down. stovetop dressing and cornish hen is good enough for 2.

will you invite me to dinner? 🥺

Fungus haters in the family, myself included.

They wouldn't have a jello mold anywhere in their house. They love to get in the kitchen together to make dishes. Everything is the best and the freshest.

It makes me tired just thinking about their effort.

I'm making prime rib, a saffron potato puree, a green veggie (not sure which) & a tomato/mozzarella salad.
My wife is handling desert.
But, no turkey for us. It's a boring meat.

With clam chowder and clams 😋

I ordered a pretty small prime rib, so we'll have leftover beef.
I already plan to make beef barley soup with what's left.

That is Indian Pudding. I had never heard of that when I was a kid among all the "Indian" labeled things I recall when I was a kid. I had never heard of it when I was a kid. It was a Colonial desert based on Maize. It sounds perfect for a Thanksgiving meal addition.

I might have taken a bit, and nibbled an even tinier bit (😄 , or didn't take any at all.

And as mentioned I will scoop out the marshmallow part of the sweet potato dish.

usually get leftovers. i have to fix the gravy to eliminate sage + improve the beef gravy.

My gran was a jello queen. She had all those copper molds, like the one shaped like a crab.

There was one she called "stained glass parfait," which was cubes of different color jellos in a parfait glass, mixed with mayo and walnuts.

I know we're all going to rush out and try that recipe!

Oh lord, let me tell you the disaster that Thanksgiving is already turning out to be.

A couple weeks ago my niece sent me a text, "would you be willing to host Thanksgiving dinner at your house this year? Mom and dad will be out of town." (She normally eats Thanksgiving dinner at her parents' but they're unavailable this year. Please don't ask why to protect their privacy.) So I said that wouldn't be a problem. My house is pretty much designed to do this - I have two refrigerators, a 36-inch induction range and a Traeger grill. She lives in an old mobile home that's way too small for company.

On Thursday I got a text from her: "We're having Thanksgiving dinner at my house. My house is really small but we'll make it work. Please come." This came in AFTER I had already bought the turkey.

I worked days Friday building Thanksgiving packages (a newspaper section with inserts in it - this makes life much easier for us because one person can feed the equivalent of six heads) and after work went out to her house. "Uhh...I thought I was hosting Thanksgiving. We agreed to that a couple weeks ago." "We did?" "Uhh...yeah." I pulled out my phone and showed her the text thread. "Oh." So, now it's at my house again.

Anyway, I'm gonna do smoked turkey, smoked stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, rolls, jello salad, three kinds of olives (black, green and some damn thing I bought at the store last week) and a couple kinds of pie for dessert.
