I love you all

(68,883 posts)So I still dont really need to know what day of the week it is. Except for needing to know when to post my weekly drinking thread.
Always good to see you!
I like the thread, especially learning more about cocktail recipes.
Enjoy your time off. In Ohio, getting time off in January and staying off the roads has always been a bonus!

We buy this citron ginger tea that we mix with brandy, warmed up and thats our twice a week drink.

(68,883 posts)I also used to keep a bottle of Grand Marnier, too. But having just one orange liqueur leaves more room for bottles of other stuff.
Enjoy!

(3,986 posts)... but I was in Costco the other day, and there was someone giving out freebies of this espresso martini mixture made by Kettle One.
I liked it! I bought a bottle of it. I like to add cream (1/2 & 1/2) to it and just sip. It has been a month and it is not all gone yet.
So I don't really have a question for you, just felt like sharing.
(I had been curious about espresso martini's as I see them drinking them all the time when I watch Below Deck)

(68,883 posts)Skyy is one of the few major vodkas that I havent tried yet. I hope to do so soon.
Ketel One makes an incredible vodka. Sublime. I will have to try their espresso flavor.

(3,986 posts)... but the reason I took it for my 'go-to' vodka drink is 1. It is made locally (I live in the Bay Area, I think originally was made in my city, San Francisco), but more importantly, 2. It is ultra filtered and tends to give less horrendous hangovers.
I don't really drink as much as I used to, so that is not really a problem for me, but I am kind of a creature of habit, and that is my habit. Also, where I buy it at Safeway, it has been $19.99 (liter) for over 14 years now.
I was surprised that the price didn't go up due to inflation. I rarely have hangovers (but I also don't drink anything like I used to).

(68,883 posts)The guy in the Army who called me Chesty didnt like me very much, and may not have meant it as a compliment.

(33,856 posts)ever have the pleasure of having Calvary Grog? There are a lot of variations and most (no...all of them) kicked my ass.

(68,883 posts)Like the fabled 'stone soup', everyone brought what they had and threw it in. The base spirit was usually Everclear, which, IMO, is pretty nasty stuff. It took a lot of not-Everclear to dilute it down to drinkability. Mad Dog, Boone's Farms, Hawaiian Punch, Seven-Up, sliced citrus fruit, you name it.
For me, drinking was the name of the game. When the others got around to breaking out the cigarettes and the porn films, I blitzed. I wasn't on for any of that.
After all that, I usually took a taxi to any of the German bars where American soldiers didn't hang out. There was one place where the elderly bartender/owner would pat my cheek and call me "mein Sohn."

(33,856 posts)That and Soju messed up a lot of GIs.
I spent some time with the Cav near the DMZ. Their grog was much tamer than what you described, but still packed a mean punch. Was never sure what was in it.
