Hubby dropped his hearing aid last night, as he was preparing to change the battery. We could never find it. Looked in the plants, under all cushions, at vents in the ceiling. This exact same thing happened to me around 3 years ago. Never found it.

(16,935 posts)... I was invited to a client's home for Thanksgiving dinner with the family. They told me I was encouraged to bring along a guest.
An elderly woman I knew would be spending the day alone - so I invited
her along and she was excited to attend the outing.
A few days before the event she was fitted for a hearing aide,.. being elderly her hearing was not so good. She was having trouble getting used to it. Sliding it in your ear canal, but remembering to open and close your mouth as you positioned it in your ear canal. The micro buttons were very difficult for her to operate too being she had bad arthritis of her fingers.
So off the dinner we go. I went to pick her up and made sure she was ready for the journey across town to the home of the Thanksgiving Dinner event.
When we got there it was a large crowd of sons and daughters and grandchildren. We all had a nice living room chat with finger hors d'oeuvre and beverages.
Then we moved to the dinning room for the main meal. After everyone's portions were attended to we began to all chow down. At the middle of the meal my guests hearing aid fell out while we were all eating and landed in her dinner plate.
She was the type who was inclined to get embarrassed very easily. So while she was talking with someone, I reached over and fished the hearing aid out of her dinner plate and wrapped it in a paper dinner napkin and stored it in my pocket.
Before I wrapped it up in the paper dinner napkin I showed the hearing aid to the hostess and the family members seated at her end of the table. Some saw what happened but were really confused as to what the item was that I took from the plate and the proceeded to start wrapping up in the napkin to place in my pocket. Once I showed them the hearing aid I quickly put my index finger to my lips in the Sh-sh-sh keep it a secret mode.
The remained of the dinner went splendidly. We had a delicious assortment of deserts. Chatted a little more - then made our way home.
I dropped her back off at her home and got her inside and settled then made my departure. But quickly returned to her door with the unwrapped hearing aid in hand. I told her as I was getting in the car I saw this on the seat where she was seated. Knowing she had spent a lot of money for it I figured I would return it immediately so she did not think it got lost. She was ever so grateful and I went on my way.
That saved her the embarrassment or humiliation of having her hearing aid fall out onto her dinner plate infront of a large crowd of people sitting at the table witnessing the event. That saved her from a bruised and/or damaged ego. That Thankgiving Day turned out wonderful - all had a splendid time enjoying each other's company and a delightful meal.
It is a good thing the hearing aid did not fall into a bowl of soup. That retrieval and return would have not gone so smoothly.
