Tis the season. ...Who here remembers Glass Wax?

Glass Wax was a window cleaner from the '60s. It went on like a wax that you let dry, then you buffed it off for a crystal clear view.

But Windex was an easy two step cleaner. Spray it on, wipe it off, and go to the next window, so no one ever bought Glass Wax until a marketing genius came up with an idea. At Xmas time mom would buy a can for about 69¢ and the stencils that just happened to be on the the shelf next to it for another 59¢ (That's where they getcha).

Usually my sister would take on the task. She would hold the paper up to the glass and use a sponge (not included) to daub the Glass Wax on. Instant joy and Winter Wonderland! I'm sure the neighbors would be jealous, so we didn't put them on that side of the house.

The week after Christmas the windows were clean as could be.

Working in dad’s gas station. Third bay had no lift, it was the car wash bay. And Glass Wax was how the windows were cleaned in the car wash bay.

I always kept a couple of cans around. I may even still have a can out in the garage. I finally gave in to RainX a few years back.

And we did the glass wax windows for a few years in the 50s.

of having rain blow off the windshield easily. It is a little harder to get the glass clean with RainX. But it it really hard to get glass Wax anymore.

I've got a can of it--it's still sold--because it's a really good cleaner that doesn't leave smears and streaks. Don't have any stencils, though. Damn.

You can do this today with the liquid glass cleaner for electric stove tops. Same stuff. Just get a couple of stencils from Michael’s and you’re there.

As a kid in the late 50's/early 60's it wasn't the Christmas season until the stencils & Glass Wax came out.
