Mine is cashews.

(38,584 posts)There are way fewer pecans in the nuts I buy but I always have a bag on hand for baking.
Another question. Pecans or walnuts? Pecans for me. I think walnuts have a bitter flavor but black walnuts are a whole other thing.

(70,597 posts)With the every day mix, I'm cashews too, then pecans.
But, there's another really good brand we get that has Brazil nuts & Filbert.
I can even leave the cashews to get to those.
debm55
(38,421 posts)ProfessorGAC
(70,597 posts)They remind a bit of coconut.
Filbert actually have a bit of a cashew flavor, but are crunchier.
They don't taste like much without the salt, but neither do cashews.
One heads-up: be careful with raw cashews. Cashews have the same chemical compound, urushiol, that makes poison ivy pernicious.
The roasting process eliminates a lot of it, and what's left is low enough that it washes off after roasting. (They then partially dry the nuts, then salt them slightly damp so the salt sticks. Then they are full dried and put in the cans.
Raw cashews are often unwashed. If they are washed, the urushiol is still plentiful and won't all wash off.
Ingesting them can cause the equivalent of a poison ivy rash in the esophagus. Very bad.
We had this happen in pur household when I was 15 or 16.

(70,597 posts)You can get the nuts shelled!
You know how tough shelling a Brazil nut can be!
You can get them with shells on, but we don't!
Same with the filberts.

While on the bus we had the the a/c; I'd be going out into the hot weather for some meals, and other breaks. Like it was ? 89°F in Oklahoma City around 10:30 PM on a break!
So I thought they'd keep better. 👍

(38,421 posts)in fact they are about all I would eat. prefer pecans raw or just roasted with no salt, Brazil nuts make me gag, filbers/hazelnuts about the same - I can eat them salted but why do people ruin good chocolate by contaminating it with hazelnut? almonds are ok, but kind of meh.
just give me a container of roasted salted cashews, I am good. regular peanuts are good alone too, but cashews are more special.

(18,685 posts)Almonds, Walnuts, Pecans, Hazel nuts, Brazil nuts.
I'm thinking (bc I haven't had a can of mixed nuts in decades!) that is a general mix.
Now my favorite nuts are peanuts, pistachios, and [oh, my goodness] macadanian nuts! So not, except maybe peanuts, in the average mix.
When I went on a 2 week off & on the bus ticket vacation I wasn't going to be at a hotel for 2+ days, and I brought a bunch of food to eat. Including a mix of unshelled nuts, and our family's nut cracker!
The Brazil nuts were something to crack open!
Geeee, maybe I'll get a can before the end of the New Year's week. 😄

I never eat the peanuts and will have only a couple of almonds.
