Decided to treat myself with something shi$$y

Been wanting something really obscure for a long time. I already have some fossils in my curio cabinet. So I bought a specimen of coprolite. Aka dinosaur poop. Should arrive tomorrow. This one is in its natural condition. I may pick up one that’s been polished also. They can be really nice looking.

Of what left it no idea. It’s in its raw form you might be able to tell if it was a meat eater if a fragment of bone showed up. From the pictures and description it was something small and I’m thinking herbivore. There are some that are cut and polished what can give you a better idea. It’s about the size you would expect from a small dog. 3 inches.

Looking up dinosaurs from there.

Simosuchus was a small herbivore in Madagascar where this is from.

Miasiakasaurus was a small meat eater.

Kongonaphon was insect eater but was too small.

I know there were more also it’s possibly from a young dinosaur. Unless they went to extreme testing I doubt even the seller would know.

It will sit proudly next to the fossilized holes I found at McFadden beach. Aka small animal holes that got filled in and fossilized.

Not that this is subject to a vote, of course, but "Vicious Lizard" just sounds the coolest.

Cool post, duncang!

Are really beautiful looking. You would never guess what it is. If you do a search for polished coprolite it will surprise you.

my obscure fossil fetish is stromatolites

I want to go see them in Western Austraila, though I know there are some in Baja and elsewhere.

That was split and has the positive and negative side. It’s kind of neat you put the two halves together and it looks like some junk rock with no sign of the trilobite.
