One green pepper cost a dollar at my supermarket. Fresh produce has gotten pricey!

If I had my way, the job of harvesting fruits and vegetables would pay a worker fairly so we could all eat better, fresher foods.

If I were younger I would grow some myself (I did try and it was an abysmal failure). I would also makes pots of vegetable soup that I used to make. Alas, I can no longer stand on my feet in the kitchen for more than a half hour due to arthritis in my lower back.

OTOH, I notice asparagus is on sale at just 99 cents per pound. So that's good!

A green pepper will cost $3 if you can find one at all. The reason we have cheap-ish produce in the first place now is because immigrant workers get low wages and no benefits.

But if a lot of people, including mass prepared food producers, want green peppers, they'll have to be farmed like all other produce. And without enough people to plant, harvest and ship them, they will be either prohibitively expensive or nonexistent for anyone who doesn't have their own garden.

But today, one of the guys in our golf group brought this big box of yellow & orange bell peppers
His son works for an accident clean-up outfit and they cleaned up a semi wreck that involved produced.
So, I got 4 red & 4 orange. $16 worth the peppers for free.

11. Are they spicy? I always think of them as hot peppers and not interchangeable, but I could be wrong.

People think they are because they are usually pickled in pepperachini mixes with hot peppers.
